Rain & wind in west A cold start seiten=4 abk=focus

Tuesday
A bitterly cold start to the morning over most of the country, with a widespread and severe frost. There will be lots of sunshine around across much of central and eastern parts of England and Scotland. Increasing cloud across Ireland, western Scotland, Wales and the west of England, making the sunshine hazy. Rain spreads through ireland, as the winds increase wituh these reaching gale force in the west. In the afternoon the rain reaches the west of Scotland, Wales and western England with mist and murk forming on the coasts and hills in the west, where it will be windy too. It does look as though the Pennines and hills of Scotland may have a period of snow too. Through central and eastern areeas the cloud increases too. Feeling cold for many, especially as the winds increase, but milder air is going to be reaching the west, with tops of 9C in the far west, 4C for most other places.

Tuesday Night
A breezy night with snow affecting the Pennines, Peak District and Scotland, with several centimetres of snow falling in places. Cloud and rain for much of the rest of Scotland, northern, central and eastern England. Drier weather will be reaching western areas, although there will be some showers on the coasts, this drier weather spreading eastwards and the winds easing later. Lows near 0C in central Scotland, holding closer to 6C in southern England.

Wednesday
Low pressure moves through Northern Ireland today. This is going to be bringing an area of heavy showers and more persistent rain into western Scotland, western Wales and northwest England. This then turns more persistent through Wales, and much of western England through the afternoon. More eastern areas start off drier with some sunny spells, although showers here in the afternoon. Once again snow will be falling voer the hills of Scotland. The winds increase through Ireland and the southern half of England and Wales. Tops of 10C in the far south of England. 4C in northern Scotland.

Thursday
The area of low pressure remains over the north of the country today. This is going to be bringing another unsettled day. There will be showers around, most of them to the west where again they could merge to longer periods of rain at times. There is the risk of more persistent rain at times, especially on western hills and coasts. More eastern areas stay drier, and at the moment it looks as though northeast England and East Anglia may be dry. Highs near a cool 4 to 8C.
