Grey, cold and misty Becoming briefly milder seiten=4 abk=focus
Thursday
Quite a bleak, cold winter's day across much of Britain with locally dense patches of freezing fog in the morning across parts of Wales and central and southern England. A lot of ice as well, especially on untreated surfaces. Some patchy light snow across Scotland tends to face through the day. Largely dry across England, Wales and Northern Ireland with just some patchy of sleet here and there but on the whole dry. We keep a lot of cloud through the afternoon as the fog lifted into low cloud. Expect highs of 1 to 3C but up to 8C across Cornwall. It will stay at freezing where the fog sticks the longest.
Thursday Night
Generally we keep a lot of cloud and mist throughout much of the evening and night, still with a bit of patchy sleety rain across north west England and western Scotland. Dry and misty across the rest of Britain. During the night the winds freshen in the west as outbreaks of rain spread in across Northern Ireland, Wales, western Scotland and north west England. This will be preceded by snow across Scotland and north west England. Lows of 0 to -1C in the east, 5 to 8C in the west.
Friday
Strong south westerlies develop today as it turns milder and outbreaks of rain in the west spread into most places during the afternoon though staying dry for East Anglia and south east England. This will be heavy across south west England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Light evening rain turns heavy again in the west during the night and it stays windy with strong gales in the west. A much milder night than we have seen for weeks with temperatures well above freezing. Before morning rain will be across Cornwall. Highs of 4 to 10C.
Saturday
A windy, milder day with gales in the west. An area of heavy rain across Northern Ireland and western Britain in the morning will push into central areas in the afternoon then into the east in the evening and night. As this hits colder air coming south, it may turn to snow across the high ground of north east England and eastern Scotland. Showers replace the rain in the west. Highs of 5 to 11C.
