Winter returns Snow for some seiten=4 abk=focus
Wednesday
A wintry start to the day through mid and southern Wales as well as the southwest Midlands where snow is likely to be falling mainly, but not exclusively, over higher ground. This is going to be continuing through the morning and into the early afternoon, before it becomes more patchy and fades away. Over 10cm of snow could fall over high ground of Wales with 2 to 5cm of snow at lower levels away from coasts. It is wet through the rest of Wales and much of southern England with snow on the hills here. This rainfall ext6ends into Northern Ireland too. Much of the rest of the country is cloudy and cold with some outbreaks of snow on the hills. It stays cold into the afternoon with a fragmented area of rain, sleet and snow from Northern Ireland, through Wales and into the southern Midlands and southern England. Turning drier over southwestern England with a few brighten spells coming through here as well. A few spots of rain, sleet and snow over the high ground of northern England and Scotland, but mainly cloudy here, and breezy. Highs of a cold 2C over the snow fields of Wales and northern England, more generally 3 or 4C but as high as 10C in the far southwest.
Wednesday Night
The rain, sleet and snow fading away through the course of tonight and then the country is going to be cold and rather cloudy. There will be some breaks in the cloud, the best of them towards the north and west. A few mist or fog patches may be forming by the morning as well, especially in more sheltered areas and there is always the risk of a snow flurry drifting onto eastern coasts. Lows of -3 to -5C under clearer skies, more typically around 0C.
Thursday
Some snow flurries affecting eastern coasts throughout the day, these only light. For most places the morning is going to be a cold one with a fair amount of cloud around too. This cloud is going to break here and there, allowing an odd brighter spells to shine through. Towards the west the winds will be increasing and rain will be pushing eastwards into Ireland. This rain is going to be edging eastwards through the course of the afternoon, reaching west Wales, west Scotland and southwest England by the evening. A chilly day for most at 3 to 5C, but nearer 8C in the southwest.
Friday
The rain becomes heavier through the night over the west of the country and will be increasingly turning to snow across the Pennines and central and southern Scotland. This may bring blizzards to the Pennines through Friday as the area of rain becomes slow moving across eastern Scotland, northern England, the Midlands and southeastern England. Turning drier to the west with only a few showers over Wales and western Scotland. More rain returns to Northern Ireland later. Highs of 1 to 3C over eastern parts of Scotland and northeast England, nearer 10C in the southwest.
