Wet & windy north Drier weather following seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
Plenty of cloud around through Wednesday morning. It is going to be feeling milder and there will be a few bright or sunny spells around here and there over England and Wales at first. A band of more persistent rain, and increased winds will be moving southwards through Scotland. During this afternoon the cloud persists over most of England, Wales and Ireland with the band of more persistent rain slipping further south. The more persistent of this rain will be through Northern Ireland and northern England by midday, slipping into Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia by mid-afternoon. Sunnier weather follows through Scotland, and it stays windy here as well. Highs near 9C in the far southwest of Scotland, nearer 6C in the far north of Scotland where it will be feeling cooler through the day.

Wednesday Night
Rain across southern England and southern Wales this evening, possibly briefly turning to sleet and snow on the hills as it moves away. Clearer skies then follow from the north and it becomes dry through all areas. The winds will be moderate from the northwest, although may be fresh to strong along eastern coasts. A widespread frost with temperatures down to 0C.

Thursday
A cold start to the day with some bright or sunny spells through eastern areas at first. Increasing cloud from the west will be bringing some spots of rain, these turning more persistent and increasingly to snow through the afternoon. This snow more especially over the Scottish hills and Pennines. A cloudy afternoon for many of us, cold as well with more southeastern areas tending to stay dry, but the threat of outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow elsewhere. Highs at 2 to 7C.

Friday
There is the threat of an area of more persistent rain, sleet and snow clearing southern England on Friday morning. That snow could bring a few centimetres especially over the high ground of Wales and southern England. As that area of precipitation clears drier weather should follow from the north, with some sunny spells. There will be a few snow showers, around western and eastern coasts as well as northern Scotland. Highs at a bitterly cold 0C in central Scotland, 4C in southwest England.
