Thursday
Heavy rain to start Thursday morning across Scotland and northwest England. This rain area will be edging steadily north, clearing northern Scotland by late afternoon. To the south conditons are rather cloudy, but dry on the whole, although the main feature of the days weather will be the wind. This is going to be be gusting in excess of 50mph on western and southern coasts. Although some brighter spells will be developing over eastern parts of England in the afternoon, a further area of rain is expected to reach northwest England and Wales by the same time. Highs near 7C in northern Scotland, 16C in any sunshine over eastern England.
Thursday Night
Staying windy across southern England and Wales tonight with further gales, although the winds should ease by the morning. Outbreaks of rain will be affecting southern Wales, southern Ireland and southwest England, these becoming heavier and more persistent towards morning. A few spots of rain through southern England, although more northern areas should be drier but rather cloudy. Clear spells over eastern and southern Scotland, but some showers in the west. Lows of 0C in central Scotland to 10C in southern England.
Friday
A wet day to come across the southern counties of England; most of the rain to the south of the M4 corridor. Here it is going to be staying wet all day and the rain may be heavy at times. To the north it it going to be mainly cloudy and there will be a few spots of rain, although this tending to be lighter and more patchy. Over Scotland there will be showers and it is going to be significantly colder. The showers could be heavy at times and will be turning to snow on the hills. Highs at 8C in northern Scotland, 15C in southern England.
Saturday
A much colder but brighter day to come for most of the country today. Showers will be affecting western coasts of England and Scotland, but overall it will be dry for many inland areas. Across northern and western Scotland there will be showers, and these becoming heavy at times, turning increasingly to snow over the hills and mountains. There could be blizzard conditions across the Highlands and Grampians for a time. Highs will be at 5C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.
