Wednesday
A ridge of high pressure builds through the country today bringing a welcome change to the unsettled weather of the past few days. There will be some showers affecting eastern coasts of England and a fresh northeast wind here through the morning.; For most though the morning will be a dry and bright one. Plenty of sunshine through all areas and a morning frost too. Through the day conditions are going to be staying dry and sunny with light winds. Cloud increasing for western Ireland and western Scotland towards evening. Highs at a cold 3C in central Scotland, around 9C in southern England.
Wednesday Night
All change again for Wednesday night as pressure begins to fall once again. It will start cold and clear for much of central and eastern England and Scotland. However, winds increasing quickly in the west and this will be pushing rain eastwards through the night. The rain heavy over western Scotland, Ireland, Wales and western England where the winds will be reaching severe gale force. In fact, the winds will be to gale force over most of the country by Thursday morning. Lows of 0C at first in the east, but then more generally 4 or 5C.
Thursday
On Thursday the area of low pressure crosses Scotland. This is going to be bringing winds in excess of 70mph to parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as Northern England. Heavy rain will be making its way steadily east through the day, although it could be reluctant to clear from parts of northern England, Wales and southern Ireland and it is in these areas where we could see some local flooding. The heaviest of the rain transferring through the Midlands and into southern England through the afternoon with squally showers following to the north. Highs at 13C in southern England, 7C in northern Scotland.
Friday
Low pressure is in control again for Friday. There will be cloud and heavy periods of rain across southern parts of the country, and strong winds through the Channel too. Brighter skies across northern England, although some showers in the northwest. A cold day for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The winds will be slowly easing here and there will be showers. The showers could be wintry on the hills. Highs of 4C in northern Scotland, 12C in southern England.
