Wednesday
A cold and damp day ahead for the western half of the country. An area of rain is going to be edging eastwards bringing a wet morning over southwest Scotland, northwest England, Wales, the Midlands and southwest England. The rain could be heavy very early on over the hills, but the rain is going to be turning lighter through the day. More eastern parts start the day dry with a few bright spells, but a fair amount of cloud too. It is going to be windy too with gales across Scotland, northern England, parts of Wales, the Midlands and exposed parts of southern England. The afternoon sees the rain band moving very little, but weakening and rain being lighter. It will however be staying very cold with lots of mist and murk and fog shrouding the hills. Eastern areas should stay dry. Highs of 2C in northern England, 11C in southwest England.
Wednesday Night
Overnight all of the country will be cloudy. There will be plenty of mist and murk for many of us. Outbreaks of rain are likely over high ground, especially through the Midlands, northern England and Scotland, where some of the rain could turn to snow on the hills. A further area of more persistent rain passing through Ireland and reaching Wales and southwest England. The winds ease through England and Wales, although more gales are likely over Ireland and western Scotland where gusts could be in excess of 60mph. Lows at 1C in central Scotland, 7C in southwest England.
Thursday
A windy day across parts of western and northern Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. There will be an area of rain affecting northern England and southern Scotland. Showers around western and southern coasts, a few of them heavy. The rain will spread into Scotland through the afternoon with some light rain for Northern Ireland too. Further showers for western and southern coasts of England and Wales, but inland areas should become brighter and dry with some sunny spells. Highs of 7 to 11C.
Friday
There will be cloud and some outbreaks of rain over southern Scotland and northwest England. A few showers on the coasts, mainly to the west and south. The afternoon sees further showers on southern and western coasts. There will still be some cloud and outbreaks of rain for southern Scotland. Some bright spells over central and eastern parts of England with sunny spells. More sunny spells for northeast England and central parts of Ireland. Highs at 7 to 12C.
