Showers spread southeast A cold night ahead seiten=4 abk=focus
Sunday
A cold and damp start to Sunday across eastern England where rain is still going to be drifting in from the North Sea. For more central and southern parts of England and Wales the morning should start brighter with some sunny spells. However, cloud and showery rain affecting the central and western parts of Scotland and Ireland is going to be tracking southeast through northern England, and then into Wales, the Midlands and southwest England by late morning. This could bring a spell of more persistent rain to the eastern Midlands, East Anglia and southern England in the early afternoon. Brighter and colder weather should follow through most areas as the afternoon progresses, and it will be feeling chillier too. Highs near 6 to 9C.
Sunday Night
It is likely to be staying rather cloudy across East Anglia and eastern parts of England through this evening. As the night progresses these outbreaks of rain are likely to continue through eastern England and the eastern Midlands, although this should only be light but may become wintry on eastern coasts. Wales, western and southern England, northwest England, Scotland and Ireland will have clearer skies and a cold night with a frost forming. Ice is forming on the roads with lows of 2C on eastern coasts, -2C in western Scotland.
Monday
A bitterly cold day to come across most of England and eastern Wales. There will be outbreaks of drizzle and sleet, as well as some snow here and there, although this amounting to only a light dusting. Little change through the day as it stays bitterly cold in a fresh northeast wind. Across Scotland, Ireland, northwest and southwest England and the west of Wales the weather will be cold, but it should be dry. The best of any sunshine here too with tops of just 3 or 4C through England, 7C in the sunshine to the west.
Tuesday
Staying bitterly cold through Tuesday with a brisk northeast flow affecting southeastern parts of England. Here there will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most of it light. A further area of rain across northwest Scotland, most of it only light. Elsewhere the day is going to be much brighter. High pressure extends through northern and western parts of the country and this is going to be bringing morning mist and fog patches here, which will clear to leave lots of sunshine and a dry day. Highs of a slightly milder 6 to 8C.
