Severe gales Rain sweeps east seiten=4 abk=focus

Tuesday
It is going to be a very windy day across the country through today. A cold front sweeps into Scotland and Ireland through this morning, taking squally winds and heavy bursts of rain with it. More central and eastern parts of the country will be staying mainly dry and rather cloudy with just an odd bright spell. Through this afternoon the front pushes heavy rain through Scotland, northern England, Wales, the western Midlands and much of southwest England. Rain may turn to snow over the Scottish hills. Winds may well be gusting over 50mph through England and Wales, 70mph in northern England. Becoming brighter in Ireland with sunny spells and heavy showers. Highs at 12C in southeast England, 7C in western Scotland and Ireland.

Tuesday Night
Gales at first in the east with cloud and periods of rain as the cold front clears from eastern coasts. The winds then ease as drier weather spreads in from the west and skies become clearer. There will be some showers affecting western and southern coasts of England, one or two of them heavy and an odd one making it inland. Lows at a chilly 1 to 3C.

Wednesday
A broad southwest flow affecting the country through Wednesday. The morning is likely to be dry with bright spells, although there could be some showers on western and southern coasts. An area of low pressure will be to the north of Northern Ireland, tracking northeast towards northwest Scotland through the late afternoon. Cloud is going to be increasing in the afternoon as a warm front moves into Ireland bringing outbreaks of rain here, the rain then turning more persistent over western Scotland later. Winds increasing in the afternoon too, reaching gale force in the west. Highs at 6 to 11C.

Thursday
Low pressure dominates the weather across the UK and Ireland on Thursday. A cold front passes slowly through the Midlands and southern England taking cloud and rain with it. Scattered, but heavy showers follow from the west with some sunny spells developing. The winds will have eased significantly. Highs at 12C in southern England, 6C in Northern Ireland.
