Cold & windy south Brighter north seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
A cloudy day across the southern half of England and Wales with outbreaks of rain, sleet and even some snow. There is a chance of snow settling over the high ground of the Midlands and Wales. Windy through these areas too with gales on eastern coasts. The rain in the southeast should be lighter and more showery in nature. Across northern England, Scotland and Ireland there will be some showers moving south although for many the day is going to be dry with some sunny spells. Little change is expected into this afternoon. Highs at 4 to 6C for many, but to 11C in the southeast.

Wednesday Night
Cloud and outbreaks of rain in the south of England at first tonight. This rain will be slowly fading away as it clears southwards. Skies then become clear over most of England and Wales, leading to a widespread and severe frost. Cloudier skies over the north and west of Scotland will be bringing some showery outbreaks of rain here. Temperatures could dip to -4C in central England, nearer 3C in northern Scotland.

Thursday
There could still be some broken cloud and outbreaks of rain affecting the far southern coasts of England on Thursday morning, although it should become brighter through this afternoon. An occluded front moving south through Scotland will bring more cloud here and some outbreaks of rain, these reaching Northern Ireland by this afternoon. For the rest of England and Wales the day is likely to be cold, but bright with lots of sunshine. A cold day at 6 to 9C.

Friday
High pressure is to the west of Ireland through Friday, as an area of low pressure slips south into Norway. The effect of this is to bring a series of fronts south through the UK and Ireland and a second plunge of colder air. Cloud and outbreaks of rain associated with the fronts, mainly affecting Scotland and eastern parts of England. Tending to stay drier in the far south of England and Wales. Highs at 6C in northern Scotland, 12C in southern England.
