Colder north Showers head south seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
A bright start to the day across much of England and Wales. Good spells of sunshine through the early morning. However, thicker cloud through Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland bringing some showery outbreaks of rain. This spread south through the rest of England and Wales through this afternoon. Windier weather and more persistent showers and rain across Scotland this afternoon as the winds extend beyond gale force. Gusts could be to 70mph at times, and as cold air spreads in the showers turn increasingly to snow across the Highlands, Grampians and Cairngorms. Highs at 9C in northern Scotland 17C in southern England.

Wednesday night
A cold and windy night. Showers clearing from southern coasts early in the night, but they will continue in eastern Scotland and eastern England throughout the night. Very windy in the east too with the winds in excess of gale force. Drier to the west with just a few showers on windward facing coasts.

Thursday
A cold and windy day through the UK and Ireland on Thursday. Low pressure will be in the North Sea with high pressure just west of Ireland. Gales affecting eastern coasts with showers here too. A few showers over the west coasts of Wales and southwest England as well as eastern Ireland too. Elsewhere it will be a bright and cold day with tops at 8 to 12C.

Friday
High pressure is likely to be over Scotland on Friday. Lower pressure in Europe brings a northeast flow through England and Wales. This has cloud associated with it, and bands of rain too. Most of the rain is expected to be across England through the morning, then fading in the afternoon, although always the threat of rain on eastern coasts. Drier over northern and western areas with good spells of sunshine. A morning frost in Scotland and Northern Ireland with some dense morning mist and fog patches here too. Highs at 9 to 14C.
