A cold front spreads rain into the Midlands during the morning, moving quickly southwards. A damp afternoon for much of southern Britain, with some heavier bursts of rain at times. The front clears the south-coast by early evening. Gale force northerly winds bring frequent spells of rain, sleet and snow onto north-eastern Scotland, becoming wintry even at lower levels. After a brighter spell in the middle of the day, wintry showers also affect much of northern England through the afternoon. Highs 2 to 5C.

Thursday
