Wednesday
Today the winds will be the main feature of the weather with northwest winds up to 70 mph across Scotland into the afternoon but a windy day across all parts. Outbreaks of rain, perhaps with some sleet and wet snow over high ground across England and Wales will be sweeping south, clearing the far south towards the latter part of the afternoon. As it does so will be turning sunnier and colder with some showers, these wintry showers across Wales, western coasts of Scotland and the northern coasts of Northern Ireland. Northern parts of Scotland could see spell of heavy or more persistent snow today. Expect highs of 4 to 6 Celsius.
Wednesday Night
It remains windy this evening and tonight with gusts of 50mph across much of the country. This evening we keep the risk of wintry showers across Wales and some western coasts and across northern Scotland. Elsewhere it will be mainly dry. Overnight outbreaks of rain, possibly with sleet and wet snow may spread down across much of the country clearing Scotland and northern England by morning. Here it will turn quite icy under clear skies. Minimum temperatures of 1 to -2C.
Thursday
Thursday remains very windy with the winds now from the northeast. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and perhaps wet snow over high ground will clear before afternoon. Apart from a few rain showers around the coastal areas, it should become dry with sunny spells for most places. Continued windy into the evening and night across England and Wales with clear spells and a few coastal showers. Icy conditions may develop on untreated roads and surfaces with a frost mainly confined to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Maximum temperatures of 5 to 7 Celsius.
Friday
Friday we keep a brisk north east wind across the country, making it feel quite cold. For most parts of the country it should be mainly dry and bright with sunny spells but occasional showers are forecast near North Sea coasts. A few will also be running down through the Irish Sea clipping western Wales. Overnight stays quite windy with further showers around eastern coasts of England with the bulk of the country dry with clear spells. A more widespread frost is likely overnight away from East Anglia and the south east. Maximum temperatures of 4 to 7 Celsius.
