Wednesday
Rain in the south-east overnight clears before dawn, with many central and eastern regions starting dry with some sunshine and maybe a touch of frost. Rain moves into the south-west through the morning, spreading into south Wales by lunchtime and becomes heavy and persistent into the afternoon. Rain also spreads towards the Midlands during the afternoon, affecting many parts of England and Wales during the evening. Scattered showers in north-west Scotland. Central and eastern Scotland and also Northern Ireland are likely to stay dry with sunny spells. Highs 6 or 7C in the north, 10 or 11C in the south.

Wednesday night
Rain continues to affect much of England and Wales overnight. Heavy falls of rain in Wales, the Midlands and northern England bring the risk of localised flooding. Dry overall for Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a few showery bits of rain in the far west. Lows down to 1 to 4C in northern Britain with a frost possible in Scotland. Staying at 6 or 7C in the south.

Thursday
Outbreaks of rain in northern England during the morning may be stubborn to clear in the north-east. This should clear by late morning allowing brighter skies to spread to most of the UK and Ireland during the afternoon. A few showers around western coasts otherwise it is a dry afternoon. Feeling cool in the north with highs of just 4 or 5, and around 6 to 8C in the south.

Friday
A colder night with the risk of some frost and ice to start Friday morning. Starting bright with sunny spells in the east in the morning. Fronts bring outbreaks of rain into western Britain and Ireland during the day, although staying dry for central and eastern regions until after dark. Some heavier rain in western Scotland, north-west England and Wales in the afternoon, with the risk of snow over the Highlands. A weakening band of patchy light rain and drizzle moves through the Midlands late evening. Light winds in the east, breezier in the west. Highs 5 to 9C.
