The remnants of the overnight rain lingers for a time during Thursday morning in the north and north-east of England, clearing away to the east. Some wet snow over the tops of the Pennines. Brighter skies move in from the west for all areas during the day with sunny spells developing in the afternoon. A few showers in the west, chiefly western Scotland and Ireland. Highs 4 to 8C.
Thursday night
Clear skies in the east overnight allow temperatures to fall close to freezing. Thicker cloud pushes in from the west but most of the UK and Ireland will have a dry night. Outbreaks of rain approach the west of Ireland by dawn. Lows 0 to 2C in the east, closer to 2 to 5C in the west.
Friday
A bright and sunny start for eastern Britain on Friday morning, with thicker cloud in the west. Cloud encroaches eastwards during the day but central and eastern Britain stays dry. Patchy rain moves into western regions, heavier for a time over Ireland in the afternoon. Rain and drizzle affects Wales and Scotland by evening. Some snow over the Highlands. Highs 5 or 6C in the east, 7 to 10C in the west.
Saturday
Saturday is expected to see high pressure build briefly over the UK with light winds. Cloudy in the south with some patchy light rain in the south-east which should break through the afternoon. Frost and ice to start the day in the north, with bright and sunny spells developing for many northern areas. Some snow showers in the western Scotland. Feeling cool. Highs 3 to 7C.
