Fog and frost Rain spreads east seiten=4 abk=focus
Monday
A foggy start to Monday morning in central, eastern and southern England, with patchy fog elsewhere. This fog may struggle to clear all day in parts of eastern England. A few wintry showers around western Scotland in the morning. During the day most places are dry, with just isolated showers for Irish Sea coasts, and possibly around the Channel coast too but well scattered. For many central areas of England fog will lift into low cloud, so remaining quite dull here. Western regions, including Wales and Ireland more likely to see a few sunny breaks coming through in the afternoon. Highs 4 or 5C in the north and east, reaching 7 or 8C in the south and west.
Monday night
Fog thickens quickly again on Monday evening for much of lowland England and eastern Wales with some dense patches of freezing fog overnight. More breeze for Ireland and the west, with clouds thickening and temperatures lifting through the night. Patchy rain moves into the west of Ireland, moving east and becoming more persistent by dawn. Lows widely between -2 and +2C inland across the UK.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning starts with widespread fog and frost in central, eastern and southern England, which may be stubborn to clear in the east. Rain across Ireland and western Scotland in the morning moves slowly east through the middle of the day, reaching western parts of England and Wales in the afternoon. Becoming more widespread during the evening, although clearing from Ireland. Likely to fall as snow over Highland Scotland. Outbreaks of rain for most of the UK overnight. Cool in the east, milder in the west, highs 4 to 8C.
Wednesday
A milder night overall with rain, but some icy patches in the west once rain clears. Overnight rain is expected to persist in eastern regions during the first half of Wednesday. This may struggle to fully clear the east coast even during the afternoon as the rain band becomes slow moving. Brighter skies spread from the west, but with heavy showers around many western coasts of the UK and Ireland. Some snow over the Highlands. Feeling cool in the rain, highs 3 to 8C.
