Feeling chilly Dry Thursday seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
Outbreaks of rain will be widespread again on Wednesday morning, with a chilly day in prospect as winds swing around to the east. Rain turning to sleet and snow over higher ground in north-east England and Highland Scotland. Through the day rain will ease in Scotland and northern England, although persistent light rain and drizzle is likely to hang around for central and southern England, staying cloudy and dull most of the day. Driest and brightest weather will be western Scotland and north-west England in the afternoon. Showery bursts of rain are likely in the south-west of England and Wales and many parts of Ireland. Highs just 4 or 5C in the east, nudging a 7 to 8C in the far west.

Wednesday night
Most places become dry overnight, with a few wintry showers fading away in the east. Variable cloud in central and eastern England may hold temperatures around freezing, but clearer skies in the north and north west will lead to a widespread frost. Temperatures falling to lows of -1 to -4C, and lower in Highland glens. There may be few patches of freezing fog in lowland areas.

Thursday
A dry but cold day for most of the UK, although with some patchy rain for Ireland. A frosty morning for many, and temperatures remain low during the day. Some very light wintry flurries on the east coast, and a few spots of drizzle in the far south-east otherwise dry. Tending to stay cloudy in the east, with the best sunny spells breaking through in the western half of the country, especially west Wales, and north-west Scotland. Clouds thicken from the west later, ahead of wind and rain overnight, turning to snow in the north-west. Chilly with highs between 2 and 5C.

Friday
Heavy rain and strong winds spread across much of the UK and Ireland on Friday. Rain will be preceded by snow over Highland Scotland and the hills of northern England. Some of this may fall to low levels for a time in the early hours, before becoming rain for all except the mountains during the morning. Further problems with flooding are likely to develop. A clearance moves into Ireland and western Scotland by afternoon, but followed by showers. Rain remains persistent for England and Wales, heaviest in the west and south-west. Windy with widespread gusts 40 to 50mph, and 60mph around western coasts. Feeling cool in the rain, highs typically 4 to 7C, maybe slightly higher in the west.
