Wednesday
A cloudy start to the morning for most places. Showers develop for northern England and Scotland, becoming more extensive by afternoon and evening. Rain also spreads into western Wales and south-west England during the afternoon. Central and eastern England are likely to remain dry with a little hazy sunshine. Showers and longer periods of rain for Ireland. Low cloud and a cool easterly wind for north-east England and eastern Scotland, with some coastal fog at first, temperatures just 7 to 10C. For most of England and Wales highs reaching 15 to 18C, and may nudge 19 or 20C in any sunshine in the south-east.
Wednesday night
Outbreaks of rain continue to affect northern and western areas during Wednesday evening and overnight. Rain may become persistent in eastern Scotland, with a brisk easterly wind. Rain may turn increasingly to snow over the tops of the Scottish Highlands. Most areas remain cloudy. Overnight lows 5 to 9C for most, although may drop cooler in Highland Scotland.
Thursday
An unsettled day on Thursday, with areas of rain and showers becoming extensive across the UK and Ireland. Northern areas are most prone to seeing rain during the morning, whilst southern areas may start bright. Showers soon develop across central and southern England and Wales, and areas of persistent to heavy rain developing widely by afternoon. Over the Scottish Highlands, showers turning increasingly to sleet and snow before clearing. Brighter skies spread from the north during the afternoon, with sunshine breaking through in Scotland and northern England. Feeling cool in the rain, and especially in the north as a north-easterly wind picks up. Daytime highs may struggle to do better than 8 to 13C. Dropping cold quickly in the north by evening.
Friday
Friday starts chilly, especially in northern Britain where there may be an early frost. Any residual showers in southern and eastern areas should soon clear, with most areas seeing a dry and bright day with plenty of sunshine. Eastern coasts will feel particularly chilly with a north-easterly breeze. Cloud may thicken in the west of Ireland, with the risk of a little drizzle later. After a cool start, temperatures will reach highs of 11 to 14C in central and southern areas, but may struggle to climb above 8 to 11C in the north and north-east.
