Thursday
An unsettled day on Thursday with rain and showers across the UK and Ireland. Rain is most extensive in northern England, southern Scotland and Wales at first, but showers soon spreading from the west across the Midlands and southern England. Heavy thundery downpours for England and Wales during the afternoon. Over the Scottish mountains, showers turning to sleet and snow before clearing. Brighter skies spread from the north during the afternoon, with sunshine breaking through in Scotland and northern England. Feeling cool in the rain, and especially in the north as a north-easterly wind picks up. Daytime highs struggle at 7 to 10C in the north, and 11 to 14C in the south.

Thursday night
Heavy showers ease slowly in southern Britain on Thursday evening, with clearing skies spreading from the north. Dropping cold quickly in Scotland and northern England. Cloud may persist in central and southern regions, holding temperatures at 5 to 8C overnight. In Scotland temperatures fall towards 0C, or just below freezing in the glens, allowing a frost to form. Northern England 0 to 3C, and may also see a rural frost.

Friday
Friday starts chilly in the north. Most places will be dry, although there may be one or two showers in the south and east. A bright day with plenty of sunshine in northern Britain, with clouds breaking through the day for the Midlands and southern areas. Eastern coasts will feel particularly chilly with a north-easterly breeze. Quite cloudy for Ireland, with the risk of a little drizzle in the west later. Temperatures rising to 11 to 14C by afternoon in central and southern areas, but may struggle to climb above 8 to 11C in the north and north-east.

Saturday
High pressure resides across the UK, with clear skies overnight giving the risk of a widespread frost to start Saturday morning. A dry and bright day with lots of sunshine for most of Britain. Thicker clouds to the west may bring a few spots of rain to western parts of Ireland. Cool around eastern coasts, just 9 to 12C. Elsewhere highs 12 to 16C, mildest in the south and west.
