Bright & breezy, showers west Wet and windy Sunday seiten=4 abk=focus
Saturday
A bright and breezy day on Saturday. Sunny spells, best towards the east, thicker cloud in the west. Any early low cloud over the hills soon clears. Overnight rain in north-east Scotland should clear around dawn. Showers for western Ireland, spreading east across Ireland through the day. Scattered showers also for western regions of Britain, but central and eastern areas of England and Scotland should remain dry and bright most of the day. A few showers may push east across the Midlands later in the afternoon. Clouds thicken later in the south-west, with rain setting in across southern Ireland and the south-west of Britain toward evening. Temperatures reaching 21 to 23C in central and southern England, around 16 to 19C in the north and west.
Saturday night
Cloud and rain spreads slowly north-eastwards late on Saturday evening, affecting Ireland, Wales and western parts of England overnight. The breeze across inland Britain tending to ease on Saturday evening, becoming south or south-easterly. However, toward the south-west of Britain and Ireland, winds will increase to gale force as a deepening area of low pressure approaches. Overnight lows typically 10 to 13C, but clear spells in the far north may allow temperatures to fall locally much lower for Highland Scotland.
Sunday
A deep area of low pressure - the remnants of ex-Hurricane Bertha - moves gradually north-eastwards across Britain on Sunday. The most likely current track takes the system across central and southern England. However, much of the country will be affected by a spell of heavy rain and blustery winds. Gales are likely in the south and west during the middle of the day, later extending into northern and eastern England. Lower wind speeds overall for Scotland. Heavy showers or longer spells of rain may persist all day in northern and western parts of Britain and Ireland, but rain should clear through southern areas leaving brighter spells by afternoon and evening. Heavy seas in the south and west. Cool in the north 13 to 16C, but may reach 18 to 21C in the south and east.
Monday
A windy and unsettled day for Britain and Ireland, with low pressure likely to be centred north of Scotland. Squally showers blowing from west to east, giving longer periods of rain at times, particularly in western and north-western areas. A brisk west to south-westerly wind, but gales slowly easing through the day in the north. Seas will continue to be rough. Highs only 12 or 13C in north-west Scotland, 15 to 18C in northern England and Wales, rising to 21 or 22C in south-east England.
