Gales and rough seas Heavy rain moving north & east seiten=4 abk=focus

Sunday
A deep area of low pressure - the remnants of ex-Hurricane Bertha - moves gradually north-eastwards across Britain on Sunday. First thing in the morning, heavy rain affects most of England and Wales, plus eastern parts of Ireland. Rain is expected to clear quickly eastwards across southern counties, leaving a windy afternoon with squally showers. Heavy rain moves slowly north-eastwards, but may well persist most of the day in areas from the Midlands and Wales northwards, and spreads increasingly northwards across Scotland. Frequent showers for Ireland. Gales in the south and west will extend further north through the day, possible gusts of 50-60mph. Lower wind speeds overall in Scotland. Heavy seas in the south and west. Cool in the north 13 to 16C, but may reach 18 to 21C in the south and east.

Sunday night
Strongest winds by Sunday evening are likely to affect northern England, although gale force winds may still affect many areas. The strongest winds slowly ease by dawn on Monday, but it will remain very windy. Heavy rain will clear from most of England and Wales, but persist across Scotland into the early hours. Blustery showers will continue to affect western parts of England, Wales and Ireland, and a few heavy showers may also move east across southern England. Overnight lows 9 to 13C for most.

Monday
A deep area of low pressure will be centred north of Scotland on Monday, bringing a windy day across Britain and Ireland. Squally showers blowing from west to east, giving longer periods of rain at times, particularly in western and north-western areas. Fewer showers in the east, and there will be bright sunny spells away from showers. Strong west to south-westerly winds, with gales around coasts and hills, combined with rough seas and high tides. Temperatures only 12 or 13C in north-west Scotland, 15 to 18C in northern England and Wales, rising to 21 or 22C in south-east England.

Tuesday
Low pressure centred over northern Scotland will bring another unsettled day on Tuesday, with widespread blustery showers moving from west to east. Showers will be most persistent in the north and west, merging into longer spells of rain at times. Toward the south and east showers will be more scattered, mixed in with sunny spells. Feeling cool in a brisk south-westerly breeze. Temperatures 15C to 19C for many, perhaps 20 or 21C in the south-east.
