Cloudy north & west Brighter to south seiten=4 abk=focus

Monday
It's a windy morning across the whole of the UK and Ireland, and that's the way things look set to stay throughout the day. There will be gales in Scotland and the far northwest of England with gale force gusts on western and southern coasts. Rain affects central and northern Scotland, some of it heavy in the northwest this morning, but this tending to ease into this afternoon. For southern Scotland and the rest of the UK and Ireland it will be breezy with sunny spells and showers, mot of them in western and southern areas, these thundery at times. The showers tending to be less frequent in the east. Highs near a cold 12C in wetter parts of northern Scotland, more generally 17 to 22C.

Monday night
Rain continues tonight in northern and western Scotland, this tending to become lighter as the night wears on. Elsewhere it remains breezy with clear spells but also a few showers, most of them again in the west and south. Lows will be near 8 to 12C.

Tuesday
Low pressure is expected to be to the east of Shetland at midday on Tuesday. An occluded front across Scotland brings more outbreaks of rain through Scotland, although the exact location of the rain is uncertain at the present time. Brighter for England and Wales in a brisk west to southwest wind. There will be showers, and the threat of these merging to a more persistent spell of rain in the morning, before returning to showers again in the afternoon. These heavy and thundery at times, especially in the west. Highs at 14 to 21C.

Wednesday
Low pressure remains to the east of the UK on Wednesday. A northwest flow will be bringing further showers, some of them heavy, especially on windward facing coasts. There will be a few bright spells between the showers. Note that the showers may merge to longer spells of rain at times with some strong gusts of wind. Highs at 14 to 20C.
