Frequent rain and heavy showers for most places today, plus gusty winds in the south and east - gales around exposed coasts. A band of rain in the east clears during the morning, leaving brighter spells and scattered showers across the eastern Midlands and East Anglia. An area of heavy rain is expected to affect Wales and north-west England for several hours, slowly moving north-eastwards across northern England during the afternoon. Squally showers in the south of England. Frequent rain for Scotland, may merge into several hours of rain, heaviest Galloway and also the southern-most Highlands, giving the risk of localised flooding. Remaining showery in the west of Britain and also Ireland. Feeling cool, highs 8 to 12C.
Friday night
A south-westerly breeze, and pulses of showery rain continue during Friday evening and overnight, most frequent in the south and west. Toward dawn, a more organised area of rain, and increasing winds spread into the south of England, Wales and Ireland. Dry overall in the east of England overnight, and clearing skies may allow temperatures to fall to 3 or 4C locally. Overnight lows typically between 5 and 8C.

Low pressure affects the UK and Ireland, and fronts spread across southern Britain during the day. A period of heavy rain and strong winds moves west to east across southern counties of England. Elsewhere a few pulses of heavy showery rain, may give an hour or more of rain locally. Lighter winds in the north and west. Least rain eastern England, also northern Scotland. Showers for Ireland, most in the west. Temperatures between 8 or 9C in the north to 11 or 12C in the south.

A broad area of low pressure resides across the British Isles, but overall Sunday will be a promising day. A band of rain may linger in the far south-east, perhaps staying damp here for many hours. A few showers in the far west, but for many areas Britain and Ireland there is likely to be plenty of dry and bright weather. Feeling cool, with mist and fog slow to clear in low lying areas, and a slight frost in the north. Light winds. Daytime highs reaching 8 to 12C across the country.
