It is likely to be a damp start to the day for many. Plenty of cloud around, with the most persistent rain in northern England and Scotland. A general improvement in conditions through central and southern parts of England and Wales, with some sunny spells developing. There will be some showers, most affecting Wales and southwest England. Heavy showers in Ireland. Scotland will be wet for most, especially in the east where there could be some local flooding. Highs at 10 to 14C.
Wednesday night
Rain fading from most of Scotland tonight, although always the risk of some showers or outbreaks of rain affecting western coasts and hills. One or two showers on western and southern coasts and hills. Most areas away from the coasts are likely to be drier with skies clearing. Low near 5 to 9C.
Thursday
Low pressure will be to the west of Ireland through Thursday. Winds will be increasing during the morning, becoming severe gale force in the afternoon in the west. Eastern areas starting mainly dry, although cloud increasing from the west with rain into Ireland by morning. The rain then spills eastwards into Wales and southwest England by midday, before edging east in the afternoon and becoming heavy in western areas. The far east is likely to be staying dry. Highs at 8 to 14C.
Low pressure remains dominant through Friday. This is going to be bringing some heavy periods of rain in most parts of the country. With a south to southeast wind it will be southern facing slopes that will be wettest, and there is a risk of some localised flooding too. The far north of Scotland should be dry, with drier weather arriving in the far south of the country ni the afternoon. Highs at 11 to 14C.
