Thursday
A cold front moves slowly south-east. A wet start for northern England, Wales, the Midlands, and the south-west. Gradually becoming brighter from the north-west, but a few heavy showers may persist even by afternoon. Starting dry in East Anglia and the south-east before rain and drizzle arrives, slowly becoming persistent during the afternoon, a few heavier bursts near the south coast. Heavy showers will affect western regions of Scotland and Ireland, with hail and thunder mixed in, and snow over mountains, one or two spreading well inland. Mainly dry with a little sun in eastern Scotland and north-east England. Gusty south-westerly winds, particularly ahead of the main rain band, and squally around showers. Temperatures 7 to 9C in the south, nearer 5 or 6C in the north.

Thursday night
A continued damp evening in south-eastern England, but gradually rain clears away. Through the night another area of heavy rain is likely to spread into the south-west setting in widely across southern counties of England and Wales toward dawn. Heavy showers continue overnight in the north-west of Britain and Ireland. Eastern and central regions remain drier overnight, with a few breaks in the cloud allowing temperatures to fall close to freezing. Lows typically 1 to 4C.

Friday
A small area of low pressure passes east across the south of England, bringing heavy rain for several hours from the Midlands southwards, including south Wales. Some uncertainty regarding the duration and northward extent of rain. Most rain is likely to clear from the south-west by late morning, but heavy rain is expected to set in across East Anglia into the afternoon. Locally very windy with gales on southern coasts. Showers for north-western Ireland and western Scotland. Scattered showers across south-eastern Ireland, west and north Wales. Eastern Scotland and north-east Scotland likely to stay dry most of the day with brighter skies. Feeling cool beneath the rain at 4 or 5C, elsewhere highs typically 7C.

Saturday
A bright and dry day for many areas of Britain and Ireland, with sunny spells in central areas. There will be showers in northern and western parts of Scotland and Ireland, also through the Irish Sea into Wales, perhaps north-west England. Some sleet or wet snow over the hills in northern Britain. Scattered showers may also clip the North Sea coast of England. Feeling cool in a north-westerly breeze, although the wind becoming light later. Clouds thicken across Ireland during the afternoon, ahead of rain arriving from the west overnight. Dropping quickly chilly on Saturday night across England and Wales where skies remain clear. Daytime highs 5 to 8C.
