Windy, frequent rain Feeling cold Friday seiten=4 abk=focus

Friday
Widespread strong to gale force winds, strongest in the far north early morning, but squally gusts 40 to 50mph for exposed areas all day. Bursts of heavy rain will spread from west to east, most frequent in the north & west, but also merging into organised rain across central areas in the morning. Expect hail and thunder, particularly northern Britain. Snow on the mountains. Some sunshine away from showers. Feeling cold in the wind, highs just 8 to 12C.

Friday night
Showers will continue for northern and western regions into the evening, again hail or snow over northern hill tops. The cold winds remain strong, easing only slowly. A brief ridge builds from the west, allowing clear spells across England & Wales. Fronts moving in from the Atlantic will thicken cloud, bringing rain to Ireland by dawn. Chilly, with temperatures dipping to around 4 to 7C, but the strong winds should prevent any frost.

Saturday
Areas of low pressure to the north & west. Warm fronts move across Ireland into Britain, and heavy rain will increasingly set in across western regions of England & Wales, slowly spreading east by afternoon. Showery in northern Scotland, but central & eastern Scotland may escape largely dry. Winds becoming strong again in the south-west. Temperatures 8C in Scotland, around 10C for northern England, to 13C in the south-west.

Sunday
Low pressure centred to the north-west, and fronts across northern Britain, will bring further heavy and prolonged falls of rain to Scotland & northern England, particularly over western hills. Risk of flooding. Mainly dry in central & southern Britain, although a lot of cloud, and a little drizzle at times. Risk of early rain in the east. Blustery winds, gusting gale force in north-west. Mild, highs 11 to 15C.
