Flood threat north & west Windy, very mild again seiten=4 abk=focus
Saturday
Rain over Ireland will soon set in across western Britain, heaviest and most prolonged over hills of Wales & north-west England. Patchy rain spreads to central areas, becoming increasingly persistent by afternoon and evening. Rain also extends to southern Scotland, but Highland regions should be often dry, once early wintry showers ease. Winds becoming strong again from the south-west. Just 8C in Scotland, but 10 to 13C elsewhere.
Saturday night
Continued heavy falls of rain are likely in north Wales, north-west England & south-west Scotland. Increasing concerns for flooding in these areas. Over 100mm may fall over the hills during 24 to 36 hours. Northern Scotland drier, but chilly, lows near 0C in far north. Strong winds for England, Wales & Ireland, gusting 40 to 50mph, particularly exposed areas. The south & east stays largely dry, cloudy and very mild at 12 to 14C.
Sunday
Fronts bring further heavy and prolonged falls of rain for Scotland & northern England, particularly over western hills. Ongoing threat of flooding. A broad warm sector influences England & Wales. A lot of cloud, and a little drizzle, but largely dry for Midlands & south. Strong south-westerly winds, gusting 50 to 60mph for exposed coasts and hills, also strong to the lee of Pennines & Snowdonia. Very mild, 13 to 15C, locally 17C in north-east.
Monday
A cold front brings early rain to eastern Britain, but this should clear, leaving brighter spells and scattered showers. Some heavy bursts in the north-west, possible hail, and wintry over the mountains of Scotland. A little sunshine across England & Wales, before cloud thickens again from the west. Fronts arriving from the south-west threaten rain before the end of the day. Temperatures dropping after a mild start, around 8 to 13C.
