Thursday
An area of heavy rain will be affecting southern Ireland this morning. This passing east during the morning to be over southwest England, southern Wales and central southern England, then into the rest of the far south of England through the afternoon. An area of showers in northern Scotland, some heavy and merging to longer spells of rain, with sleet or snow over the Highlands later. Elsewhere it should be drier, although there will be showers in the west. Best of any sunshine in more eastern areas. Breezy too across much of the Midlands, northern England and Scotland. Tops at 8C in northern Scotland, 11C in southern England.

Thursday night
Becoming colder overnight as the north to northwest wind drains cold air southwards. There will be showers in Scotland, mostly the north and west where some may be heavy. The showers falling as sleet and snow on the hills, and increasingly wintry over the hills of Northern Ireland and the northern Pennines too. Cloudier along southern coasts with some spots of rain here. Mostly dry elsewhere with some clear spells. Low of 7C in the far south of England, 0C in central Scotland.

Friday
A north to northwest wind through the country on Friday. Troughs will be moving southwards bringing showers, some of them heavy to many western, northern and eastern parts of Scotland. The showers turning increasingly to sleet and snow over the hills. Drier to the south with some sunny spells here, and feeling very cold too. Shower feeding into Northern Ireland and later to northern Wales and the far northwest of England in the afternoon. Some rain across the far south of England bringing rain for some, most in the southwest. Elsewhere mostly dry with some sunny spells but feeling cold. Tops near 2C in northern Scotland, 10C in the far south of England.

Saturday
A strong north to northwest flow persists through Saturday. This is going to be bringing bands of showers southwards through the UK with most falling around coasts, especially the west, north and east. The showers will be falling as sleet and snow, especially on the hills. Best of any sunshine in central and southern areas. Feeling bitterly cold in the wind. Highs at 2C in northern Scotland, 5C in southern England.
