Wintry this weekend Strong winds Friday night seiten=4 abk=focus

Friday
Rain on the south coast likely persistent for many hours, slowly clearing. Bright skies for Wales & the Midlands, with some sunshine. Showers moving off the Irish Sea spread to N.Wales, NW England and later the north Midlands. Organised areas of rain, turning widely to sleet and snow will advance south across Scotland, accompanied by strong and gusty winds, local hail & thunder. Showery for Ireland. Feeling increasingly chilly, highs 7 to 10C.

Friday night
Strong north-westerly winds bring the change to much colder conditions everywhere by the early hours. An occluded front pushes south, giving areas of rain, sleet and snow - mostly over hills, but increasingly to low levels - advancing across northern England, N.Wales & the Midlands. Rain becoming heavy for East Anglia, possible sleet, hail & thunder. Gusts 40 to 50mph, strongest eastern England. Lows 0 to 3C, locally sub-zero in Scotland.

Saturday
Wintry showers frequent around coasts in the east, west & north, often sleet or snow over hills, but at times to low levels, giving slight accumulations. Some heavy bursts, hail & thunder in east. Away from showers inland & central-southern England, expect plenty of sunshine. By evening, pulses of rain turning to snow spread to N.Wales, NW England & W.Midlands. Just 3 to 6C, but feeling sub-zero in strong, or in the east, gale force northerly winds.

Sunday
Another cold day, although the northerly wind not as strong as Saturday. Areas of rain, sleet or snow moving south across central areas in the early hours will clear southwards, leaving a largely dry and bright day, with plenty of sunshine. However, wintry showers remain likely along the east coast. Scattered showers around coasts in north & west easing. Frost likely early morning, and again later. Some icy roads. Top temperatures 4 to 7C.
