Bitter northerly winds Sunshine, wintry showers coasts seiten=4 abk=focus
Saturday
Rain and sleet for eastern England in the morning persists for a few hours. Becoming brighter across the Midlands. Plenty of dry and sunny weather for inland regions of Britain. Showers of sleet or wet snow will be frequent along the east coast, also west Wales & far south-west England. Showery too for Ireland, spreading inland from the west. Strong northerly winds, gales in south & east, will make it feel bitterly cold, highs just 3 to 6C.
Saturday night
Strong northerly winds continue in eastern regions, easing elsewhere. Bands of sleet and snow showers continue around coastal areas in the east and west. Locally these may band together, and spread inland from the Irish Sea into north Wales, perhaps the western Midlands, giving local accumulations. Icy surfaces developing where showers have fallen. Turning frosty, dropping close to 0C for many, and rural northern areas locally below -3C.
Sunday
Feeling cold again, particularly in the northerly breeze in eastern England, although the wind not as strong as Saturday. For many areas it will be a largely dry and bright day, with plenty of sunshine. However, wintry showers remain likely along the east coast, and an isolated flurry may occur over hills of northern Britain. Scattered showers around coasts in north & west should ease. Top temperatures 4 to 7C.
Monday
A cold start, widespread ground frost is likely, some icy patches. Dry and sunny for central & south-eastern regions, but cloud builds from the north-west as Atlantic fronts move in. Rain soon develops for Scotland & Northern Ireland, turning to snow over the mountains. Patchy rain reaches Wales & northern England later. South-westerly winds will freshen. Milder air spreads south later, but much of the day stays cool, highs 5 to 8C.
