Mostly dull, wet north-east Continued flood threat Scotland seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
Starting murky for many. Local dense fog in the south may slow to clear. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the east & north-east, on and off most of the day. Brighter skies developing for central & western England & Wales, perhaps a little sunshine in middle of day. Rain spreads across Ireland, and approaches south-western Britain after dark. Light winds for many, but a strong south-easterly wind continues in the far north. Highs 6 to 9C.

Wednesday night
A band of persistent rain spreads east & north-eastwards to all regions through the night, heaviest falls likely for southern hills of Wales, also Northern Ireland and southern Scotland, where renewed flooding is likely. Rain begins to clear to showers in the south-west toward dawn. Strong and gusty south-easterly winds. Overnight lows typically 5 to 7C, but may fall colder across Ireland as skies clear.

Thursday
A band of rain passes quickly east across England & Wales, clearing the east coast around midday, followed by brighter skies, but some heavy showers spreading inland from western coasts on brisk westerly winds. The front becomes slow moving across Scotland & north-east England, giving persistent rain for many hours, threatening renewed flooding. Snow over the mountains will fall to increasingly low levels. Feeling cool, daytime highs 5 to 8C.

Friday
Low pressure centred north of Scotland and a front moving eastwards across Britain brings an unsettled day. Areas of persistent rain will rotate around the low across Scotland, with snow over the mountains. A belt of rain passes east across England and Wales, setting in for a few hours, then followed by pulses of heavy showers from the west. Ireland will be showery, wettest in the west. Blustery west or south-westerly winds. Temperatures 6 to 9C.
