Turning damp from west Staying chilly, wintry showers seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
A chilly but bright start, with sunshine for many. Clouds soon thicken in the west and murky conditions will develop as patchy rain or drizzle advances across Wales, western England & south-west Scotland. Some sleet or snow over the hills. Eastern regions stay dry throughout daylight. Showery bursts develop across Ireland. A cool breeze at first in the east will ease. South-westerly winds freshen later. Highs ranging from 4C in Scotland, to 8C in southern England.

Wednesday night
Outbreaks of rain continue to spread east and north across Britain into the evening, falling as sleet or snow over the hills in the north, also Wales, perhaps to increasingly low levels later in the night. Generally cloudy skies should prevent a frost for many, although icy patches may form where skies clear. Some fog over the hills. Lows 1 to 4C for central & southern areas, but locally dipping below freezing in Scotland & northern England.

Thursday
Clusters of showers, most widespread around coastal regions in the west, east & north, falling as sleet or snow at times to low levels. Possible hail and thunder in heavier showers. A few bands of showers across the Midlands. For central and southern counties of England it should stay drier overall with some sunshine. Feeling cold in brisk north to north-westerly winds. Temperatures 3 or 4C in northern Britain & Ireland, 5 or 6C in the south.

Friday
A cold north-westerly wind across the country. Areas of showers, most frequent around coasts in the west & north, spreading inland toward the Midlands at times, often falling as snow to low levels, giving local slight accumulations. Occasional hail, perhaps isolated thunder, although the heaviest showers will ease through the day. Scattered showers around coasts of East Anglia. Sunny spells away from showers. Daytime temperatures 3 to 6C.
