Persistent rain south Cooler north, wintry showers seiten=4 abk=focus
Wednesday
Fronts across England & Wales bring outbreaks of rain to many areas in the morning heaviest in the west. A mix of rain and snow for Scotland will clear into the North Sea. Brighter skies develop across northern Britain, but wintry showers follow into the far north-west. Rain lingers in the south-east into the afternoon and evening. Strong to gale force winds in the south will ease slowly. Highs 8 to 10C, but becoming cooler from the north.
Wednesday night
Rain in the south-east will slowly break up and clear away, leaving most of Britain dry overnight. A scattering of showers affect western parts of Scotland & Ireland, perhaps reaching north-west England & Wales too. Snow over the hills, may give local accumulations, and may also fall to low levels for a time, giving a risk of ice. Clearing skies and lighter winds will allow temperatures to dip to 0 to 3C, and slight frost in rural areas.
Thursday
A brighter day for many as pressure builds briefly. Sunny spells for much of England & Wales, and staying largely dry through daylight. Areas of showers in western Scotland will give way to persistent rain spreading across Ireland as a warm front moves in off the Atlantic. Clouds will thicken across the Irish Sea, and rain develops for north-west England & Wales later in the afternoon and evening. Freshening winds. Temperatures 6 to 9C.
Friday
A windy day for all as low pressure passes to the north of Scotland. Risk of gales across northern Britain. Persistent rain for western Scotland, also north-west England & Wales. Rain on and off too for Ireland, heaviest in west. Generally dry elsewhere across eastern, central & southern Britain, perhaps some rain extending into the Midlands later. A lot of cloud, best chance for some sun in the east. Highs 8C in north, to 12C south.
