Cool & bright, early showers Milder Thursday & Friday seiten=4 abk=focus
Wednesday
A wintry mix of rain, sleet, snow and ice sinks south across central & southern England & Wales in the morning. Rain clears from the south-east by the middle of the day. Sunshine across northern Britain in the morning will develop more widely across the Midlands & south by afternoon. Thicker cloud to the west. Patchy light rain may linger on western coasts and hills. Squally, gusty winds will ease slowly. Feeling cool, highs 5 to 8C.
Wednesday night
Thickening cloud brings rain to the north-west of Britain & Ireland into the evening, spreading east and south across many areas overnight, heaviest over hills in the west, some snow on the Scottish mountains. Mostly light rain affects eastern England later in the night. Low cloud and extensive hill fog. Temperatures lowest early in the night, 2 or 3C in central & eastern England, but rising from the west toward 10C by dawn.
Thursday
High pressure to the south of Britain builds briefly. A warm front trails across the country from north-west to south-east, giving a lot of cloud and drizzly rain at first, but soon becoming dry for much of England & Wales. Spots of rain may linger around north-western coasts and hills, most persistent western Scotland. A little sun breaking through in east & south. Winds becoming lighter than recent days. Milder, highs 10 to 13C.
Friday
A generally mild day, although it will be increasingly windy, with gales developing on western coasts and hills. Central & eastern England should stay dry until late in the day, with early sun giving way to thickening cloud. Drizzly conditions for western Britain will deteriorate to persistent and heavy rain as a cold front moves in from the Atlantic. Wet across Ireland for several hours. Temperatures 8 to 11C.
