Friday
A chilly, bright start for central & south-eastern Britain, where it will stay dry until evening. Some sunshine in the east, but turning hazy. Cloud will soon thicken in the west as fronts move in. Rain affects western Scotland & Northern Ireland in the morning, becoming persistent over several hours, and extending to north-west England & Wales by afternoon. South-westerly winds will freshen, gusty in the west. Temperatures 6 to 9C.

Friday night
Outbreaks of rain advance across the Midlands and southern England during the evening, although amounts small. Generally cloudy overnight. Showers frequent in western Scotland, snow over the mountains. Rain returns across Ireland and spreads to Wales before dawn as further fronts move in from the Atlantic. Blustery winds for most areas. Staying quite mild overnight, lows 5 to 7C, locally lower in Scotland.

Saturday
Slow moving fronts extend across England & Wales, bringing persistent rain to western areas, prolonged and heavy over hills, risk of local flooding. Murky in the south-west, with low cloud and fog. The east & south of Britain sees mostly just patchy rain and a lot of cloud. Frequent wintry showers for western Scotland. Strong south-westerly winds, gales for coasts & hills. Mild in south, 10 to 12C, but chilly in north at 5 or 6C.

Sunday
Low pressure north of Scotland brings a blustery, unsettled day to most areas. A cold front sinks south across England & Wales, giving some persistent rain, occasional heavy bursts. Frequent pulses of showers across the north & west of Britain, merging into constant rain, or widely snow on the hills - falling to increasingly low levels. Gales around exposed coasts & hills. Temperatures ranging from 5C in the north, to 9C in south.
