Thursday
An unsettled day with strong westerly winds, gale force in exposed areas in the west & south. Widespread squally showers - frequent heavy bursts, hail and thunder likely. Snow on northern hills, falling to low levels in the Scottish Highlands. A trough of more organised heavy rain passes from west to east across central Britain through the day. Temperatures 5 to 8C north, 9 to 12C south, feeling close to freezing in the wind.
Thursday night
Showers continue to affect most western regions into the night, and a few may spread east across central areas. Snow over the hills in the north-west. Blustery winds, strongest near coasts in the west & south. Skies intermittently clearing in central & eastern counties. Temperatures 1 to 4C, but where sheltered, may dip below freezing, resulting in frost and ice. In Scottish glens, lows locally -5C.
Friday
A cold west to north-westerly wind continues to affect the country. Clusters of showers, most frequent in western areas, but some will band together and advance well inland across northern England, perhaps also running along southern coasts. Expect squally, heavy bursts of rain, with hail and possible thunder. Snow over the hills. Plenty of sunshine for central & eastern districts. Temperatures just 4 to 8C from north to south.
Saturday
A chilly day, starting with widespread frost. Areas of wintry showers, these mainly focused on coastal districts in the west & north-west. Squally showers over the English Channel may graze along the south coast. Some bright sunshine, best in central & eastern areas. A west to south-westerly breeze. A deepening low moves into the south-west later, bringing heavy rain and gales by the evening and night. Top temperatures 4 to 8C.
