Chilly, wintry showers Sunshine, best in east seiten=4 abk=focus
Friday
A chilly and blustery day for all. Clusters of showers will bring heavy bursts of rain, most frequent in western regions, and also along the south coast. Risk of hail and isolated thunder. Snow over the hills in northern Britain, falling to low levels in the Scottish Highlands. Fewer showers in central & eastern regions - some places may stay dry all day. Plenty of sunshine. Highs 4 to 8C, feeling close to freezing in the wind.
Friday night
Areas of showers will continue to affect western regions - mostly confined to coastal districts, but some spreading well inland. Heavy bursts of rain, hail or snow over the hills - locally to quite low levels. Ice will form where skies clear away from showers. A westerly breeze may prevent a frost for southern areas, lows 1 to 4C, but in sheltered spots, dropping near or below freezing. Locally -5C some Highland glens.
Saturday
Another chilly day, although lighter winds previous days. Sunny spells, but a scattering of showers - most frequent around coasts in the west & south. Local hail & thunder in northern areas. Snow over the hills, falling to fairly low levels at times. Intensity of showers should fade in the south as high cloud thickens. A developing storm system brings a risk of gales and heavy rain to the south into the night. Highs 4 to 9C.
Sunday
Strong winds and heavy rain affect southern Britain as low pressure advances north-east. Gales in exposed areas, gusts over 60mph around coasts. The heaviest rain pivots across the East Midlands into the afternoon. Clusters of showers follow for Wales & the west. Snow is possible over higher ground in Wales & the south Pennines. A bright day for Scotland & N.Ireland - starting frosty. Highs 3 to 6C north & west, 6 to 10C south & east.
