A tendency for cloud to be breaking across England and Wales today as the northeasterly wind picks up. Sunny spells will be developing and it should be dry too. The best of the sunshine tending to be through more western areas. Scotland and Northern Ireland start the day with a widespread frost. It will then be dry and sunny for most although feeling chilly again. Some cloud may affect the far north of Scotland. Highs near 5C in northern Scotland, 11C in southern England.
Thursday Night
Clear skies in most of Scotland, Ireland, much of northwest England and Wales tonight allowing for a widespread frost to form. The frost will be severe in central Scotland. The breeze across southern and eastern England will be preventing a frost from forming here, although it stays dry with some clear spells. Lows at -10C in centra Scotland, more generally -1 to -3C in the north and west but nearer 6C in southeast England.
Friday
High pressure is expected to be centred over Scotland on Friday. After a frosty start with some local fog patches the day is going to be fine and dry with lots of sunshine across much of Scotland, Ireland and northern England. A stiffer breeze for England and Wales but still dry here. Cloud will be broken with some bright or sunny spells for most too. Highs reaching 5C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.
Saturday
High pressure remains centred over Scotland on Saturday. With lighter winds in England and Wales there will b a tendency towards cloudier skies here. The best of any brightness probably in the west of Wales and northwest England. Drizzle and patchy rain in northwest Scotland but drier elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells. Mist or fog patches may affect central Scotland too. Highs at 6 to 9C.
