Colder for a time. Wintry mid February?

Our long held belief that this winter would have a somewhat more normal characteristic than experienced in recent years, appears to have been justified., at least in the more northern districts of the British Isles and Ireland.

Southern parts of England, Wales and Ireland may have escaped this reality until now, but if our forecast pattern is correct, then the southern half of the UK and Ireland may be in for a rude awakening, at least in the short term, and perhaps for most of February. This might be a more cold and settled month, with much of any snowfall occurring early in the period.

The forecast pattern indicates that after a subtle beginning to February, a much more unsettled and colder spell is expected to take hold across all districts. This may well persist through to mid-month, when an anticyclone will build north of the UK.

A cold east to southeast wind is then expected to develop, lasting into the final week of the month, and the final days may see a milder south wet to southerly wind establishing.

We are aware that we have taken quite a risk predicting snow in this forecast. However, at this stage out pattern is strongly suggesting this to be the case and so we feel justified in making the call.
