The month ahead
March outlook

Although there may be some drier conditions across southern districts of the United Kingdom during the next few days, the weather looks set to remain very changeable through all districts until mid-month, when it is expected to become somewhat drier and settled everywhere. The north and west of the country, particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to be very disturbed, with spells of cloudy, mild, wet and windy weather, alternating with colder but brighter and showery conditions.

The south of the country will also see some unsettled weather, but it is expected that there will also be drier interludes, and the are indications that conditions will become much more settled and warmer towards the latter stages of the month as anticyclonic conditions take control of the weather pattern.

Temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly above the seasonal average across much of central and southern Britain, particularly in early April, nearer normal elsewhere. Rather wet across northern parts of the UK.
