Through the short term period, high pressure is likely to remain a slow moving and dominant feature to the east of the British Isles, keeping low pressure systems at bay to the west.
Western areas of the country are likely to see periods of rather unsettled weather at times, whilst eastern areas will experience some drier and brighter spells. Winds are expected to remain within a south to southeasterly quarter through the early part of April, this will see temperatures slightly above the seasonal average in most areas, especially through southern and southeastern areas.
Temperatures across the UK are likely to return to nearer normal as cooler and unsettled conditions spread through all areas of the British Isles during the middle stages of April, with the hint of a windy spell for the north and west. There will be drier and brighter spells for the south, although here too a more changeable pattern is indicated through the latter stages of April.
High pressure is then expected to build to the west of the British Isles are we approach the end of April, and there is the hint of much colder weather spreading down across all areas as winds turn into the north for a time, during the opening days of May.
