The Month Ahead
30 Day Outlook January

Unsettled at first

There is, in the short and medium term, no indication of a protracted period of settled weather. The pattern up to the middle of January could well be summarized as generally unsettled, often windy, with gales at times (across the north of the United Kingdom and Ireland), mainly cool with milder spells and occasionally cold. Winds are expected to be mainly from an Atlantic source, although the majority of the flow is likely to be from the north of the North Atlantic and so not overly mild.

Mid-January is expected to be turning noticeably drier as pressure begins to rise. A continental air flow is likely with high pressure to the east.

The latter stages of January should see high pressure in control, so a spell of settled weather can be expected. This anticyclone should be to the east, so a milder southerly airflow is expected towards the end of the month.
