30 Day Outlook

A battle between high and low pressure

Our forecast patterns have, since Christmas, indicated that April would be dominated by high pressure. Although we do expect a period of more unsettled weather in the short term, we remain fairly confident that high pressure will again build.

This is encouraging, although it is not backed up by current results from atmospheric models, which are indicating a much more unsettled spell of weather. At this stage we think the computer models have probably "over done" the unsettled weather.

The middle of April should see generally more settled weather establishing with a greater emphasis on anticyclonic influences. This may retreat to the west later allowing low pressure to cross close to more southern parts of England bringing more unsettled weather here.

The high pressure is then expected to become stronger to the north later in the month with the beginning of May dominated by the high pressure.
