Mixed, then a better end to the forecast

September remains a critical month for our long range forecasts. It is this time of the year that sets the scene for the accuracy of forecast during the winter months, especially the crucial autumn/winter changeover period of September into October.

At the present time we a reasonably happy with the progress of recent forecasts and it does seem that the country will see a north-south split in conditions during the coming week with the best of the sunshine to the south.

By the middle of September conditions will become more unsettled with rain through most places.

By the final week it will be generally dry with good spells of sunshine. It could become very warm for a time too, although the weather will be slowly deteriorating from the west with all places unsettled by the end of the month.

That sets us up for an unsettled start to October. There could be periods of rain and strong winds, although by the end of the forecast high pressure will be building again, bringing sunshine and warmer conditions.
