Mixed. Colder spell prior to Christmas
Okay, this is the critical one as far as the forecast for Christmas is concerned!
At the time of writing this forecast high pressure is still dominating conditions. It is going to be slipping away to the south east, although our forecast pattern suggest this may be slower than computer forecast models currently imply.
Once it has gone, we are in for a period of changeable weather, known to meteorologists as "zonal".
The period leading towards Christmas looks likely to stay very mixed. It could become stormy at times., but there may also be interludes of colder, quieter weather. None of the periods will be protracted, but nonetheless the differences between them may b e quite marked.
There is a hint that there could be a cold plunger of air through Ireland and the UK just prior to Christmas, before things turn milder in the run up too, and the New Year period.
