The Month Ahead
30 Day Outlook

High pressure dominates.

The general pattern of the forecast is remaining "on-track", although the exact pressure distribution may be slightly more anti-cyclonic than originally thought, at least through the middle part of April period

Last week we did say that we thought the middle of April would turn more unsettled, and indeed we do still expect this to happen this week.. However, eastern England may see high pressure dominate more than originally anticipated.

This will bring the overall pattern more to a blocking one, i.e. where low pressure cannot make progress eastwards due to a large area of high pressure over Scandinavia.

It does seem likely that the pressure pattern will be one of a strong ridge over southern Ireland, Wales and England, although weather fronts brushing through Scotland. A brief spell of more unsettled weather is likely around early May.
