A protracted period of high pressure has, an indicated last week, come to an end. The high pressure has been displaced well to the east of the British Isles, with the "block" now removed.
With high pressure re-positioned to the south of the UK and Ireland there seems little to impede the passage of low pressure systems tracking close to the countries. Air which had its origins over the cold near Continent has brought quite a cold regime where temperatures have been below average. The development of a more zonal westerly air flow will bring a more Atlantic feel to the conditions with the wind primarily from the west or south west, and hence temperatures will be back to near normal or even above average.
Into April and the first few days, or even the first week, will probably be rather unsettled and mixed. After the first week there are hints that once again, pressure will be building close to the UK and Ireland bringing better conditions.
