April/May Outlook

Cool and changeable end to April, but becoming warmer and somewhat drier during early May. More changeable conditions returning to all areas later

High pressure will continue to still have a dominant influence over the weather pattern during the short term, especially through central and southern districts of the country, although the northwest will be more changeable.

The final week of April should see all areas of the country rather unsettled, with cloudier and perhaps cooler weather returning for a time. Early May should see high pressure building through all areas once more, and a return to mostly fine and settled weather is expected. This is more likely across central and southern areas of England, western and northwestern districts still rather unsettled at times.

Temperatures should generally be close to or slightly above the seasonal average in most areas.
