High pressure dominating February and early March
For a while now the forecast pattern has been indicating that the middle to latter stages of February would be dominated by high pressure.
High pressure has indeed built through the UK and Ireland, albeit about a week earlier than we anticipated. Now that the high is present we expect it to remain the dominant influence for the rest of February.
The anticyclone will shift position from time to time during the coming weeks and this will greatly influence the weather.
A good deal of dry and settled weather is expected, although towards the end of the month the high may move southwards allowing a period of more disturbed conditions into northern areas.
The beginning of March sees the high staying to the south, bringing a mild southerly airflow. After the dry start, the weather may turned more mixed towards the middle stages of the month.
