The month ahead
March/April outlook

The indications are that the southern half of the British Isles will remain unsettled through the short-term period, with areas of cloud, wind and rain crossing from the southwest. There will be drier and brighter spells between although these will be short-lived. More northern areas of the country will be drier and brighter for a time, but here too there will be unsettled weather moving in from the west. Colder conditions are expected to encroach down in northern areas of Scotland for a time.

During the medium term, a trend to much drier and warmer conditions is likely with high pressure becoming the dominant feature of the weather pattern across all areas during the latter stages of March.

High pressure should also be in control of the weather during the early stages of April, although a return to changeable and unsettled weather across all districts through the middle weeks of next month. Temperatures should generally remain above the seasonal average in most areas, especially across England and Wales, closer to normal elsewhere, perhaps rather below normal across the extreme north at first.
